Online Voice Lesson Scenario
Type
Instructional Interactive Module
Date
January 2025
The Problem
Unfortunately, a lot of voice instruction isn't good. A lot of singers feel qualified to teach, unable to differentiate between application & instruction. Add to that the added challenge of learning to teach an inherently in-person instructional model over the internet, and the quality degrades further.
Even good instructors often have difficulty making the transition from in-person to virtual instructors.
The Audience
This module is directed to both experienced and inexperienced vocal instructors - i.e. those transitioning from singer to teacher, and those who perhaps are studying in college to become private voice instructors.
The Solution
Rather than just focus on the nuts & bolts behind the theories of vocal pedagogy, this course seeks to double down on the strengths of interactive eLearning, providing a variety of scenarios that every teacher will face in an online setting.
This particular example is just one part of a lesson in a larger set of modules, showing how I can create scenario based learning using only free tools (in this case iSpring free).
This is a simple prototype of the situational learning portion of one of the modules of a complete Online Vocal Instruction module. I present a common situation (i.e. a singer complaining of fatigue), and then walk the learner through progressively more challenging events associated with that sitution.
With a more sophisticated tool like Articulate Rise 360 or Storyline I would create a much more complex and engaging branching scenario. In this case I show how one can imitate that, still effectively, using just the iSpring free tools that can be embedded in Power Point, using their freely available quiz option.
In the beginning, the learner has simple, single choices, and as they progress their options expand into multiple correct options, and explanations why it is important to have a breadth of knowledge to deal with one simple, common issue.
